 Introduce Yourself
« Thread Started on Mar 1, 2004, 2:32pm »

Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the other members of our community. Some examples of information, which you might wish to volunteer, to help us get to know you are:

  • What branch / school of Buddhsim do you practice
  • How long have you been practicing
  • Do you have formal training (meditation retreats, study with a teacher etc.)
  • If not what books have you read, how did you come to be interested in Buddhism?
  • Do you post in other Buddhist Message Boards? Which?
  • How did you hear about our group?

Hi, my name is Ye, I'm male, 53 years old and have been a Buddhist for 42 years. I've studied many different schools of Buddhism and of course respect them all. I find Zen, Chan, Tibetan, Daoism and psychology very interesting. I'm currently an Apasika (lay-affiliate) at Amaravati Monastery in the UK, which is in the Therevadin Forest Sangha tradition. I read a lot and attend retreats when I can (never enough I admit). I sit every day and also practice Chinese internal arts. I don't know how my interest grew as a child. I think I just had beliefs and discovered that Buddhism delineated them best. I discovered this site while surfing the net but I'm unused to chat rooms so please excuse any lingual or technical clumsiness. I hope this covers the info you need. Thanks.

Hi
I have never done this before so I am trying to figure out how to post a message. I am really interested in Buddhism and have read a few books. I am a 32 yr old, stay at home mother of a 1 1/2 yr daughter. I was brought up Christian and read a book called "living Buddah Living Christ"that firs opend my eyes to Buddhism. I can't find anyone in my town to explain this faith to me so I decided to go on line. I can't wait to learn more.

Hi My names Cass and I'm from Austaralia. I recently began to realise being a Catholic is not for me and started to read and talk to other buddhists. I've read a few books and the one I'm reading now is "The Tibetan book of living and dying" by Sogyal Rinpoche, fairly deep stuff. Has anyone read this book?
Anyway I really love this way of living, but it is a little difficult to have other like minded souls in the country areas, people have very traditional religons here.
Anyway, if anyone wants give me some hints that would be great. Thank you
